With The Grain

If you know woodworking, then you know that going with the grain is the best way to cut wood! If you go against the grain it creates something we call “tear-out” that looks horrible and is a pain to fix. Many times, depending on the sharpness of the blade, the tear-out will vary in size. Even though this happens you can fix it a majority of the times. With veneer panels it is really hard to fix but with hardwood, it is pretty forgiving. To avoid this mistake it takes time in understanding the flow of the wood; which way the grain is going. You have to be patient with the process of building and understanding how to best use the wood you have. If you choose to lack the patience in furniture building you will never be fully satisfied and will always desire to be the best you can, but never find fulfillment in it. It takes being purposeful and consistent with it.

In life, it’s the same way. God gave us this life and His way of life is with the grain. When you go against the grain you are faced with hardships and having to constantly fix mistakes you never learned from. You are not patient and have no desire to understand this life we are given. You get a bunch of “tear-out” in life and it creates more and more problems. The way to avoid these to follow God and His will for your life! We have this one life to live and a lot of choices to make. If you choose to focus on making wrong decisions willingly you will live a life of heartache and stress. If you choose to go with the grain of life, you will feel more at peace in life and full of joy! Live your life with purpose to serve God to the fullest!

Prince Of Peace Table

Prince Of Peace Table- Made from Hard Maple stained with Kona.

Do you know of events that happen in life that caused hurt to a lot of people but even through the pain you see God’s hand through it all? This table that I built was during a time that was really hard for our church family. I wanted to name this table, but it was difficult to figure out a name. While the trials were very real for people in my life, I was reminded that there is something more that people need than just a “I am here for you!” when times get tough. Something that passes all understanding because many times what we face in life is beyond us and our human comprehension. That something is the peace of God. One of Jesus’ many names is Prince of Peace! This isn’t just a name. We need to understand that in this lifetime everyone needs Jesus. As this world gets worse and worse the only answer and solution to all the worlds problems is Jesus. Did you know that Jesus died for you and I so we can have eternal life and live always with peace and joy in our lives. That peace and joy is not something we can obtain by works and achievements but by faith and fellowship with Jesus.

Another really amazing thought about Jesus is that He was a carpenter himself. I am sure the work Jesus did was so beautiful and I believe there is a reason beyond just an occupation. You see when you build a piece of furniture you take the raw imperfect and old materials and create something new and beautiful. Reminds me of putting away the old man and putting on the new as you go from the sinful natural man to a renewed saved man in Christ (Ephesians 4:22-24 KJV). Jesus was the perfect example of living a life of peace and joy though hard times. How else do you explain someone coming to the point of giving their life for a wicked world that would still choose to hate Him even after the fact. He knew that the importance of people believing on Him for salvation and to obtain true peace and joy was worth dying for. The disciples knew this as well as 11 of the 12 were martyr’s for the faith. Who in their right mind would proclaim the gospel message, willing to be martyr’s for the cause of Christ, other than those who truly had peace and joy within themselves; something that passed all understanding.

I hope this table is a reminder for years to come that Jesus is the answer in a world of hurt and that when someone purchases it, it is a reminder of a peace that lies before them if they choose to draw near to Jesus.

God Bless!

Its not always about quality furniture!

Most of the time when people hear “Fine Furniture”, they automatically assume quality, long-lasting furniture…and rightfully so. Something I truly believe and one of the reason I do what I do is because it is deeper than the furniture itself. It’s about your life and what kind of culture or atmosphere you want to build around you! It’s not about just building a beautiful piece of furniture, there is something more important that expands beyond the premise of what possessions we obtain. It’s about our life and the lifestyle we choose to live. Quality should be at the top of the list! Why I urge people so often to purchase quality furniture is not only because its financially smart but because it creates a culture of quality. You begin to desire an atmosphere of quality around your life. The reason you bought handmade furniture is because its real and authentic. Our life should be no different. So when you choosing furniture for your home, make a decision that compliments the lifestyle you are trying to uphold. One that’s real, authentic and sustainable. When you surround yourself with quality, you can’t help but live that way.

Are We Better Than Others?

Well Done Builds - Who are we? Why are we here? What are we?

Questions that many people may ask within themselves when seeing a post or hearing our name. Common questions for honestly any business.

What makes us different? What makes us better than others? Why choose us?

Also questions asked when deciding what company you want to use as a customer.

To be honest, we offer high-end quality furniture just like other companies do or claim to. We work hard and desire to produce an experience for our clients just like many other furniture companies. There are a lot of gifted woodworkers out there. They are talented and want to grow a business as well. So honestly, I can’t say that we are better or more gifted than others. That would be a complete lie and absurd to assume that.

The truth... We are just honored and humbled that you chose us to build a piece for your home or space. We truly are passionate about what we do and want to create an experience you will never forget. We may fail sometimes because we are human but that will never change the purpose of what we do. And that is this…

Our purpose is to glorify God through the gifts and skills God has given us. We want to create a lasting impact beyond furniture. We want to create relationships that extend beyond furniture. Our desire is to shine a light on a broken world using this beautiful trade . Building furniture gives us the unique ability to impact lives through what God has given us and using what God created for us to build with. We are truly honored and blessed at Well Done Builds to do what we love.

The Farmhouse Dream

This set I made for a family member and it was a blast to build and a pretty simple design! Growing in the craft of woodworking you find out that you will never stop growing and that there is just so much to learn and do! It truly is a beautiful craft and one that is completely misunderstood to the average person. One thing that is amazing about this craft is no matter who knows what exactly went into the build or how many moving parts go into finishing a product, it is still so satisfying to build something with our hands and the skills that God gave us. There is nothing like it. You really just have to understand the craft to appreciate each piece as deeply as the craftsman does. Taking Gods creation and building something beautiful from that is such an amazing opportunity and reminder of how magnificent Gods creation is. As human beings we can take for granted the small things that we have gotten so use to over the years, because we lived after creation and didn’t see the full development of Gods creation. Well stop and look around and just be in awe at His beautiful planet. To be able to take a tree and have it made into furniture and put in our homes is amazing! I hope many can see, as I continue my journey as a woodworking, what this craft means to me and see what a beautiful thing it is!(:

Art for Culinary Arts

I had the opportunity to build a board for a culinary student. This clients daughter is in culinary school and they wanted her to have an extra large cutting board for her class. Not only was it hand made locally but they get to give it to her for Christmas. Now she gets to stand out in her class and enjoy a real hardwood cutting board. This board was made from walnut with oak strips and maple strips. It turned out beautiful and was actually one of my favorite builds. This board was 18x24 so it was big lol. It’s was fun to see the clients reaction out of love for the board. It means a ton to a woodworker when the clients expresses so much thankfulness for our work . I can now relax in peace knowing I did a job well done.

The beauty in a bow tie.

This was my first bow tie work done on a charcuterie board and man was it so satisfying. It was a blast to add to the board. Not only does it present more of the craftsmanship but holds the board together, which symbolizes your life . When times are tough know that God will hold you together and make you stronger. It shows the imperfection of the wood and in many cases you could call it honest wood. It has nothing to hide but rather to show its beauty.
